Hockey laundry starts with sorting the bag

A practical routine for jerseys, base layers, socks, and equipment with different care rules.

A hockey bag brings together materials that should not all be cleaned the same way. Jerseys, socks, and base layers are one job; protective equipment and skates are another. Keeping that distinction clear makes your laundry routine more useful.

Start with the washable clothing

Remove the jersey, socks, and any base layers, then check their individual care labels. Do not assume every item of padding can go through the same wash. Gloves, helmets, skates, and other specialist equipment should follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.

Keep team details intact

Numbers, crests, fasteners, and repairs can affect how a jersey should be handled. Inspect the uniform before choosing a cycle or a drying method. A favorite training shirt’s routine should not automatically become the rule for a decorated team jersey.

Make a place to unpack

Give used clothing a designated laundry area when you get home. Keep clean spares separate while other equipment is being cared for. Before the next session, check the kit piece by piece so a missing sock or base layer is caught before you leave for the rink.

Your next-session checklist

  • Remove all clothing from the bag.
  • Check jersey and base-layer labels.
  • Use separate care directions for equipment.
  • Check that everything is dry before repacking.

Build your laundry routine

Start with the care label on each item and the directions on your detergent. Athlete Fresh Performance is a complete, unscented detergent for washable training clothes. Use the labeled dose and only on compatible fabrics. Revive is an optional restore soak where the garment instructions allow soaking; it is not an automatic step for every uniform or piece of equipment.
